The process for filing a case with the AAA-ICDR® and preparing for a dispute remains the same.

Although each dispute is different, the typical AAA® Commercial dispute takes approximately
258-288 days from Filing to receiving the Award. Please see below for the AAA Arbitration Roadmap for Commercial Disputes depicting the well-defined set of steps by which most commercial cases proceed from Filing and Initiation to Information Exchange & Preparation.

On average, it takes 222 days–or 75% of the process–to reach the hearing stage. The infographic below shows that the first four steps of the process happen without any face-to-face meetings.
So, a case filed in April most likely will not have a hearing until the middle of November.

It is important to note, however, that only about one-third of these cases filed with the AAA-ICDR will reach the hearing stage. Nearly two-thirds of disputes filed with us settle prior to the first hearing, many of which without accruing any arbitrator compensation.

The AAA-ICDR believes that settling disputes helps preserve the business relationship, in addition to lowering costs. And if a settlement is not in the offing, parties only will benefit from getting the process going. The third of the cases that do move on will not have missed a beat.

Our preparedness plan

Business Continuity. We have previously incorporated business continuity planning into our operations, and we have updated that planning on a continuing basis so that we can continue our work as seamlessly as possible under circumstances such as the spread of COVID-19.
Focus on security. We have implemented best practices, technologies and procedures to help protect data and technology resources. The protections implements apply to all case data and equipment stored and managed on the AAA-ICDR’s vast technology infrastructure.
Uninterrupted Service. We have planning that provides for backup servers and redundancies, and security on our IT, case filing and management, and finance operations.
